Number of years between
To calculate the number of years between two given dates, subtract the earlier year from the later year. Adjust for whether the month and day of the later date passed compared to the earlier date (Fractional Adjustment).
Number of Years = (Later Year − Earlier Year) + Fractional Adjustment
For example: March 15, 2010 – March 15, 2023 = 2023 − 2010 = 13 years.
Add years to a starting date This function adds a given number of years to the given start year. It will keep the month and day the same unless it results in an invalid date (e.g., February 29 in a non-leap year).
New Date = (Starting Year + Years to Add) with the same Month and Day
For example: January 1, 2020 + 10 years = January 1, 2030.
Subtract from a starting date
This function subtracts a given number of years from a given date. Subtracting years to a starting date will keep the day and month the same unless it results in an invalid date (e.g., February 29 in a non-leap year).
New Date = (Starting Year − Years to Subtract) with the same Month and Day
For example: December 31, 2023 − 5 years = December 31, 2018.
